President’s Message

By Merle Nicholson, President, Tampa PC Users Group

We have three months of very good programs lined up for you. Be sure to attend the meetings. We need you there very badly. The attendance is what speakers look at when deciding how to spend their travel money and what club to go to. It’s as simple as this: if you don’t attend, we can’t get the speakers, period.

My wife and I just got back from a week in Seattle, where our son interned for the summer. So we got a chance to see the Microsoft "campus" a couple of times. It’s kind of interesting, I guess, because it’s just a collection of low office buildings, none of which was any better than the rest. I think to try to get an idea of its size you’d need an aerial view. In Redmond, where most of it is, there’s an ordinance limiting building height so they won’t show above the treetops. All are just three stories except where the buildings spill over to the south into the city of Bellevue, and they take a jump to four or five stories. One is planted squarely on the city line, and it’s "stepped" from three stories to four right on the line.

But Seattle in the summer is just a wonderful, alive place with gorgeous flowers and interesting parks and neighborhoods surrounded by water. It was hard to come back to 90 degree temperature and 90% humidity weather.

Back to TPCUG, remember that we need you to volunteer to serve in some capacity on the Board of Directors. Tag a Board member and ask what you can do for the upcoming year. You should not expect that this small band of good people would go on year after year serving your needs. The club is run by the membership, and that’s you.

See you at the meeting on September 8th. u
