Mary Sheridan started off our Windows SIG at 6:00 PM.
William LaMartin presided over the general meeting in the absence of our president and vice-president. He announced that we would be changing our web host, and he will keep us advised if there are any problems.
William gave a demonstration of Adobe Acrobat 4.0. This was not just the reader we all have access to online but also the full program necessary to create a PDF file for distribution. Acrobat comes in three parts: Acrobat, Distiller, and Catalog. Acrobat is naturally the main part of the program. This is where you can create new documents and edit and add functionality to existing documents. Distiller turns Post Script files into PDF files. Catalog indexes a collection of PDF files. William demonstrated how to turn an existing Microsoft Publisher document (last months newsletter) into a PDF file. He then demonstrated how to set up links in the document so if you should click on a key word you will automatically go to the associated lines or pages. Finally he demonstrated using Catalog to make a searchable index of all the newsletters for the past three years.
William presented Charles Howe, who is moving to Virginia, with a framed certificate of appreciation for all his contributions to the group.
A copy of Adobe Acrobat was awarded to Clark Evans, and Brian Lance won a T-shirt. The meeting ended at 8:30 PM. u
